Chicken Lo Mein is a take-out favorite that’s so easy to make at home! Lo mein noodles are all dressed up with bites of tender chicken, a medley of vibrant veggies, and a mouthwatering sauce. This Chinese-inspired dinner checks all the right boxes!

What’s in this Chicken Lo Mein Recipe?
Chicken Lo Mein is a wonderful mix of silky and chewy Chinese egg noodles, succulent chicken, vibrant veggies and an incredible savory sauce that ties it all together!
- Soy Sauce: You can swap this with tamari or coconut aminos if preferred.
- Oyster Sauce: In a pinch, you can use fish sauce or hoisin sauce in place of oyster sauce.
- Sesame Oil: Toasted and regular sesame oil both work well.
- Lo Mein Noodles: You should be able to locate these in the Asian section of any major grocery store.
- Olive Oil: Avocado oil is a good substitute.
- Chicken: My favorite cut of chicken to use in lo mein is boneless skinless chicken breasts.
- Onion: White or yellow onions will both work.
- Garlic: Fresh garlic will yield better flavor than pre-minced.
- Snow Peas: I love the fresh crunch these veggies give the dish! Be sure not to over-cook them.
- Carrots: You can use a bag of shredded carrots that most grocery stores sell or shred your own.
- Bell Pepper: I like to use red peppers, but you can swap them out for your preferred color.
- Mushrooms: Any mushroom you like or have on hand can be used in this recipe.
- Green Onions: These are the best final touch!
Pro Tip: If you choose to use regular flat rice noodles for this dish, be sure to let them soak according to package instructions before boiling.
Ingredient Variations
There are so many different ways you can customize your homemade chicken lo mein! Add even more veggies like baby corn or water chestnuts.
Use a low-sodium soy sauce to keep things on the less salty side. You can also feel free to substitute the chicken breasts for chicken thighs if you’d like!

The noodles used in lo mein are thicker and softer than those used in chow mein, giving them a more tender texture. In contrast, chow mein uses thin, crispy egg noodles that are fried until they become crunchy.
Chicken lo mein features plenty of nutrients from a variety of veggies and protein from the chicken breast. However, it’s also got some sodium in the sauce and the noodles have carbs. Use your best judgement to see if this recipe’s a good fit for your diet!
This recipe features Chinese egg noodles, chicken, veggies, and a sauce made from ingredients like soy sauce and oyster sauce.

How to Store and Reheat
Store chicken lo mein in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 3 – 4 days. Reheat in a skillet on the stovetop, stirring until fully heated through. Or you can warm it up in the microwave.
How to Freeze
Once cooled to room temperature, transfer the lo mein to an airtight container and keep it stored in the freezer for up to 3 months. Thaw in the fridge before reheating.
What to Serve with Easy Chicken Lo Mein
This super easy chicken lo mein is filled with chicken, noodles, and veggies, so it has everything you need for a meal. But I love having the full take-out experience by making chicken egg rolls and crab rangoons to go with it!
