How to make Crockpot orange chicken
Be sure to see the recipe card below for full ingredients & instructions!
- Whisk together all the ingredients for the sauce.
- Pour into the slow cooker and stir in the chicken.
- Cook.
- Garnish and serve!

Can you make this with chicken thigh?
I prefer to make this recipe with chicken breast, but you can use thighs if that’s what you have to hand. As with the breasts, cut them into chunks and follow the recipe as is.
Can you make it ahead of time?
Once the chicken is cooked, you can keep it on the warm setting for up to 2 hours before serving. Once cooled, you can store it covered in the fridge for up to 4 days and you can reheat it on the stovetop to serve.
What do you serve with it?
I like to serve this Crockpot orange chicken over some Jasmine or Basmati rice with some sliced green onion and some orange zest for extra zing. It’s also great served with egg noodles and your favorite veggie side dishes.

Recipe Tips and Notes
- If the sauce is thin and not coating the chicken well after cooking, make a cornstarch slurry to thicken the sauce. Combine 1 tablespoon cornstarch and 1 tablespoon water. Pour the slurry into the slow cooker and give everything a stir. Cover and cook for an additional 10-15 on high.
- Cut the chicken into bite-sized and similar sized chunks so that it’s easy to eat and cooks evenly.

This Crockpot orange chicken is sure to become a family favorite. It’s wonderfully fresh and vibrant and will easily rival your favorite takeout place.
