I have used this sauce recipe many times now. This is what I do. I double the sauce on the stove and when my wings are done, with whatever cooking method I chose that day, I pour the sauce over the wings in a huge bowl and toss. This way they stay saucy. I have even cooked wings and kept them in a slow cooker with this sauce. I came across this recipe because a restaurant stopped making these amazing wings and I was on a search for something similar. This recipe is almost exact. Thank you!

Baked Chicken Wings with Thai Sweet Chili Wing Sauce
My sweet chili wings are always a hit when I make them for the big game! Oven-baked chicken wings are so much simpler to make than deep-fried wings, and they’re a bit healthier too, without sacrificing flavor. I love how crisp the skin gets in the oven, and the chili sauce gets beautifully glazed in the process.
To make the wing sauce, I start with a base of store-bought sweet chili sauce, then add honey BBQ sauce, soy sauce, a couple of spices, and plenty of red pepper flakes. It’s absolutely delicious, and tastes great on boneless wings too. These Thai-inspired chili wings are sweet, spicy, and finger-licking good!

Adjust the Spice Level
Be cautious with your red pepper flakes! When I’m making these sweet chili wings for my kids (I love having these for dinner sometimes), I usually omit the red pepper flakes entirely. However, when I’m making these on game days and I know I have some spice lovers coming to the house, I double up the amount for extra heat.

- kosher salt (to taste)
- ground black pepper (to taste)
For the Wing Sauce:
- ¼ cup honey BBQ sauce (**)
- ¼ cup sweet chili sauce
- 3 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder

Instructions
- Preheat oven to 400℉. Line a baking sheet with aluminum foil.
- Place chicken wings on baking sheet. Season with salt and pepper.12 bone-in, skin-on chicken wing portions, kosher salt, ground black pepper
- Bake for 15 minutes.
- While wings are baking, whisk sauce ingredients together in a small bowl.¼ cup honey BBQ sauce, ¼ cup sweet chili sauce, 3 tablespoons soy sauce, 1 teaspoon garlic powder, 1 teaspoon onion powder, ½ teaspoon red pepper flakes
- Remove wings from oven and brush them with the sauce to fully coat. Continue baking for an additional 10 minutes.
- Remove from oven and brush with sauce again. Bake for 10 additional minutes, or until internal temperature reaches 165℉.
Notes
- Gently pat the wings dry with paper towels before seasoning and baking. This helps the sauce adhere and ensures the skin gets crispy.
- Baking wings on top of a wire rack will help them crisp up in the oven.
- For extra crispy skin, broil the wings on the top rack for a few minutes at the end.
- If using frozen wings, I recommend fully defrosting them in the fridge before baking. While you can increase the total cook time to bake directly from frozen, I find the skin never gets as crispy.
Note: Water, salt, pepper, oil, and broth are not counted as ingredients on this site.
How to Make Sweet Chili Chicken Wings Step by Step
Prep: Grab some chicken wings and the quick list of ingredients for the sweet chili wing sauce. Pat the chicken wings dry with paper towels to remove excess moisture. Preheat your oven to 400℉ and line a baking sheet with aluminum foil. For extra crispy wings, you can also place a wire rack in the baking sheet, so that the air circulates fully around the wings while in the oven.

Bake the Chicken Wings: Place 12 bone-in, skin-on chicken wing portions on the lined baking sheet, and season generously with salt and pepper. Bake wings in the oven for 15 minutes. They will not be fully cooked through at this point–we will finish baking after applying the wing sauce.

Make the Sweet Chili Wing Sauce: While the chicken wings are baking, whisk together ¼ cup of honey BBQ sauce, ¼ cup of sweet chili sauce, 3 tablespoons of soy sauce, 1 teaspoon of garlic powder, 1 teaspoon of onion powder, and ½ teaspoon of red pepper flakes in a small bowl. Add more or less red pepper flakes to adjust the spice level to your preference.

Sauce the Wings: Remove the wings from the oven and brush them with the sweet chili sauce to fully coat. Then continue baking for an additional 10 minutes.

Crisp the Wings: Remove the wings from the oven and brush one more time with the sweet chili sauce. Then bake for 10 additional minutes, or until the internal temperature reaches 165℉. For the crispiest wings, broil for 2-3 minutes at the end!

Serve: Serve baked Thai chili wings with any remaining sauce to coat and dip!

How to Store, Freeze, and Reheat
These sweet chili wings taste best served fresh out of the oven! But if you have leftovers, store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days, or in the freezer for up to 3 months. I recommend reheating wings in a 350°F oven for around 15 minutes, or until fully warmed through. If frozen, defrost before reheating for best results.
