I love coating chicken tenders in everything from Cornflakes to coconut, so why not Flamin’ Hot Cheetos, too? The crushed Cheetos create a super crunchy coating in the air fryer, giving me that deep-fried crispiness I crave without all the greasy oil.

Prevent a Burnt Cheeto Coating!
Flamin’ Hot Cheetos brown and burn faster than traditional breadcrumbs because of their seasoning and oil content. To avoid bitterness, I always flip the tenders right at the halfway mark and check one early the first time I make them in a new air fryer. Different models run hotter, and this quick check prevents overcooked coating while keeping the chicken juicy.

Air Fryer Hot Cheeto Chicken Tenders Recipe
Equipment
- Air Fryer
Ingredients
- ½ cup Flamin’ Hot Cheetos crumbs (*)
- ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
- ½ cup all-purpose flour
- 3 large eggs (beaten)
- 1¾ pounds boneless, skinless chicken tenders (about 12 tenders; thawed if frozen**)
Optional Dipping Sauces:
- buttermilk ranch dressing
- blue cheese dressing
Instructions
- Preheat air fryer to 400℉. Prepare a pan or surface with parchment paper.
- In a shallow dish, mix together the Cheeto crumbs and Parmesan; add flour to a second shallow dish or bowl; add beaten eggs to a third.½ cup Flamin’ Hot Cheetos crumbs, ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese, 3 large eggs, ½ cup all-purpose flour
- Dip each tender into the flour until coated, then into the egg until coated, then into the Cheeto mixture, pressing down firmly on both sides to make sure the breading really sticks. Place each tender onto the prepared surface until ready to cook.1¾ pounds boneless, skinless chicken tenders
- Coat each tender in cooking spray, front and back– more for a crispier and browned breading.
- Lay each coated tender into the air fryer basket, not overlapping. You will need to do multiple batches if cooking the full amount.
- Cook for 13-14 minutes, flipping each tender halfway through.
- Remove from basket and allow to cool slightly before serving. Serve with ranch or blue cheese to dip!buttermilk ranch dressing, blue cheese dressing
Notes
- Crush the Cheetos very finely. Big chunks tend to burn before the chicken cooks through. A food processor or rolling pin works best.
- For milder tenders, mix half Flamin’ Hot Cheetos with regular Cheetos or plain breadcrumbs without changing the texture.
- Pat the chicken dry, firmly press the breading into the chicken tenders, and let the tenders sit for 3-5 minutes before air frying to help the coating adhere better.
- Use a neutral cooking oil spray (like avocado or canola) for better browning.
- Flip the tenders gently with tongs so you don’t knock off the coating.
- Don’t overcrowd the air fryer basket. The tenders should be in a single layer, so cook them in two batches if needed.
- I tested these both with parchment and directly in the basket, and direct airflow gave the crispiest coating.
- If your air fryer tends to brown quickly, drop the temperature to 380°F and add 1-2 minutes to avoid scorching the Cheetos.
- Use an instant-read thermometer to check that you tenders are cooked through. They should register at 165°F.
- Nutritional information does not include optional sauces.
Note: Water, salt, pepper, oil, and broth are not counted as ingredients on this site.
Bring the Heat!
These Cheeto chicken tenders are more flavorful than fiery as written. For extra heat, use more Flamin’ Hot crumbs and less Parmesan, add ½ teaspoon cayenne to the flour, or mix a splash of hot sauce into the beaten eggs.
How to Store, Freeze, and Reheat
Leftover hot Cheeto chicken tenders will keep well, covered in the fridge for up to 3 days or in the freezer for up to 3 months. Let thaw overnight in the refrigerator before reheating in a 375°F air fryer for around 4 minutes, or until warmed through.
