Egg in a Hole is quick breakfast classic that comes together so easily. Perfectly cooked eggs are nestled in crispy toast, and sprinkled with Parmesan.
Create a hole in the middle of each bread slice using a cookie cutter or the top edge of a round glass.
6 slices sandwich bread
Heat 1 tbsp butter in a large skillet. Add a slice (or two if there is enough space) to the skillet. Toast the bread until golden brown and then flip over.
3 tablespoons unsalted butter
Add an egg to the hole in the bread. Cook until the egg white is cooked and the yolk is firm but still runny inside.
6 large eggs
Remove from the pan and sprinkle several large pinches of Parmesan cheese on top. Add salt and pepper to taste. Optionally, garnish with chopped parsley.
grated parmesan cheese, salt and pepper, chopped fresh parsley
Repeat with remaining bread and eggs.

Use a large cookie cutter or the top of a glass to cut a hole in the center of the bread. Be careful not to make the hole too large, or the bread can become flimsy and fall apart.
