Egg in a Hole is quick breakfast classic that comes together so easily. Perfectly cooked eggs are nestled in crispy toast, and sprinkled with Parmesan.
Create a hole in the middle of each bread slice using a cookie cutter or the top edge of a round glass.
6 slices bread
Heat 1 tbsp butter in a large skillet. Add a slice (or two if there is enough space) to the skillet. Toast the bread until golden brown and then flip over.
3 tablespoons butter
Add an egg to the hole in the bread. Cook until the egg white is cooked and the yolk is firm but still runny inside.
6 eggs
Remove from the pan and sprinkle several large pinches of parmesan cheese on top. Add salt and pepper to taste. Optionally, garnish with chopped parsley.
parmesan, salt & pepper, fresh parsley
Notes
Large, square pieces of white or brioche bread work best for this recipe.
Use a large cookie cutter or the top of a glass to cut a hole in the center of the bread. Be careful not to make the hole too large, or the bread cab become flimsy and fall apart.
