Instant Pot Chicken Tacos Recipe
Picture this – it’s taco Tuesday and you forgot to plan! Your whole family has been craving tacos all day, but you forgot to grab ingredients at the store. So, what do you do?
Sure, you could hit the drive-thru… But as long as you have kitchen staples like chicken, taco seasoning, tomatoes with green chiles and chicken broth, you can make these easy tacos!
You’ll need tortillas too, but you can send your husband to the store for that! He won’t have that long to make it, though, since this recipe only takes about 25 minutes from start to finish.

How to make Chicken Tacos in an Instant Pot
Be sure to see the recipe card below for full ingredients & instructions!
- Rub the chicken with taco seasoning.
- Place the seasoned chicken in the Instant Pot.
- Pour the tomatoes and chicken broth into the pot.
- Press the Manual button and set the timer for 15 minutes.
- Release the pressure manually or naturally once the timer is up.
- Use two forks to shred the chicken.
- Serve, and enjoy!
How long will the chicken stay fresh in the fridge?
In an airtight container in the fridge, this chicken will stay fresh for up to 3 days. The best part? It reheats wonderfully in the microwave!
I honestly get excited when I see that we have leftovers of this chicken. It makes a great lunch the day after serving it!
How do I know the Instant Pot is done releasing the pressure?
I usually go with a manual pressure release. When the manual pressure release is all done, you can tell because the float valve will drop down. It shouldn’t take very long at all.
Recipe Tips and Notes
- You can shred the chicken right in the Instant Pot! No need to move it to another bowl.
- Make the chicken spicier by adding crushed red pepper, cayenne powder, or chopped jalapeños to the mix.
- When it comes to toppings, I recommend keeping things light and fresh! Pico de gallo and fresh avocado are so delicious when paired with these savory tacos.
