What Kind Of Bread Makes The Best French Toast?
The top three choices of bread to use for French Toast are Brioche, French Baguette, and Challah. All of these options will yield a wonderful French Toast but we have to give the most stars to Brioche. Brioche truly makes the best tasting French Toast.
Why Is My French Toast Soggy?
If there’s too much, the egg in the mixture won’t cook, meaning wet, soggy, bread. You want the French toast to be dry on the surface with slightly crisp edges.

Top Tips For Stuffed French Toast
- Find the right kind of bread. While you may be tempted to simply use whatever bread you have on hand, French toast requires an airy bread such as challah to really soak up all the custard evenly.
- Make sure to whisk your custard well. You can put the custard through a strainer before you dip your bread in it to remove any remaining lumps.
- Give the pan a light coating of neutral oil and butter. This will help prevent the butter from burning.
Use a hot pan
Preheat your pan. Neglecting to fully preheat the pan before adding French toast can result in the custard bleeding out from the bread and forming a skin around the edge of the toast.
